MD admissions

We know applying to medical school can be complex and overwhelming. With that in mind, our goal at the University of Minnesota is to help you through the medical school admissions process.

In this section, you’ll find all the information you need – including steps, timing, checklists, resources, and more.

Here’s how the medical school admissions process generally works:

  1. Take the MCAT
Complete the Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT) no later than Sept. 30 of the year you wish to apply.

  2. Apply via AMCAS
Submit your official application via the American Medical College Application Service  (AMCAS) between June 1 and Nov. 15 of the year you wish to apply.

  3. Select which University of Minnesota campus(es) you're applying to
After you complete your AMCAS application, you'll receive an e-mail which directs you to a site where you'll choose to apply to the Twin Cities campus, Duluth campus, or both. This will determine which supplemental application(s) you'll receive.

  4. Submit your supplemental application
Complete and submit your University of Minnesota Medical School online supplemental application(s) no later than Jan. 15.

  5. Interview on campus

After our Admissions Committees complete a thorough review of all applications, qualified applicants will be invited for an on-campus interview.

  6. Accept your offer
We make official offers to applicants accepted to the University of Minnesota Medical School throughout the application cycle (between Oct. 1 and April 30). You’ll need to accept your offer(s) within two weeks.

  7. Select your medical school
You'll need to select which medical school you'll be attending no later than April 30th.
