Favorite activity in the Twin Cities: Appreciating the beauty of a winter's day when it is sunny, below zero and the city is covered in snow and the feeling of heat and humidity on a sweltering day in the summer.
Specialty: Family Medicine
Why I chose my specialty: Family Medicine allows me to practice a full spectrum of care from pediatrics, to geriatrics, to obstetrics, primary care and prevention and hospital medicine while supporting the family as a functional unit in the health of many patients.
Why Medicine: I was raised as both a scientist and a sociologist with an appreciation for the power of scientific thought and the importance of the struggle for justice and self-determination. As a Colombian, Puertorican child of immigrants raised in a country where people of color have had to struggle for equal rights and freedoms in the face of violence, discrimination and prejudice I found medicine as a vehicle where I could serve my community and uphold the high ethical standards of humanism, the discipline of medicine and the vital importance of public health.
