Why did you choose the University of Minnesota Medical School and what do you like about it?
I choose the UMN due to the exceptional training that I would receive in both medicine and Immunology. Including the incredible resources and opportunities available to me as a medical student and graduate student. Lastly, I admired the sense of community and connection within the program.
What would you change (areas of development) about the University of Minnesota Medical School?
Areas of development within the UMN include curriculum, community engagement, and increased diversity within the student, faculty and staff populations.
Have you participated in any student organizations? If so, why did you select those organizations and what has been your experience?
During my time at the medical school, I was the Social Co-Chair for the UMN chapter of the Student National Medical Association (SNMA). SNMA is the nation's oldest and largest student organization for students of color and minority communities. Our programming included a mentorship program where pre-medical students were paired with current medical students, a day long forum for pre-medical students to demystify the application/interview process and a Health Fair for members of the local community. I’ve also been involved in the Confidential Peer Assistance Program (CPAP) which is a student organization dedicated to supporting fellow medical students and building a sense of community. Our programming included group cooking classes, Coffee with CPAP to match first- and second-year medical students through conversation and Reflecting Pool events to facilitate intentional space for students across the years to discuss school, life and wellbeing.
