Why I chose the University of Minnesota Medical School

I am a first generation college and graduate student. I will be the first doctor and hopefully surgeon in my family. I am passionate about mentorship and very busy in various extracurricular and research projects. Growing up in Minnesota the UMN had a reputation for producing competent and compassionate physicians. Most of the doctors I knew had attended medical school and/or residency at the UMN. The U was the place people went for high quality care and when they had a difficult diagnosis. On my interview day I was blown away by the medical students and other interviewees. Everyone was so kind, passionate about medicine and driven to make a difference in their community. I knew I wanted to be apart of this community and learn and work with them. Applying after a gap year, first generation college student, SIM
