Why I chose the University of Minnesota Medical School

I remember a few years ago when I first started looking at medical schools, the University of Minnesota Medical School, Duluth Campus truly checked all the boxes for me. One of my favorite aspects of the school is having a small class size while having all the resources of the University of Minnesota; one of the largest, most comprehensive academic health centers in the nation. This allows you to learn in a setting where you get to know your class and faculty on a personal level, while having all the same opportunities for mentorship and research as the larger schools in the nation. Another great aspect of our school is the integrated organ systems-based curriculum with early clinical exposure. I personally feel learning in blocks based on the various organ systems helps you gain a greater understanding of the sciences. The early clinical exposure allows us to get a head start on other medical students around the nation by seeing real patients in the first semester. Lastly, you couldn’t ask for a more beautiful place to attend school. Duluth is such a gorgeous place to live with unlimited outdoor activities during all the seasons. We have some of the best mountain biking/hiking trails in the nation, as well as a ski hill right in town. Even if you’re not the type who enjoys doing outdoor activities you have beautiful views of Lake Superior throughout the city.

Outside of school during warmer weather I enjoy mountain biking, hiking, spending time at the lake, and helping out at the in-law's farm. During colder weather I enjoy riding my fattire, skiing, and touring breweries. I also enjoy binge watching Disney+.
