Why I chose the University of Minnesota Medical School

Prior to medical school I majored in the social sciences and had the opportunity to explore my interests in that field through research. I hope to combine my interests in the social sciences with my interest in medicine by learning more about social determinants of health, working with underserved communities, and pursuing research related to these topics. In my free time I love to relax at home, dance, or try out new cooking recipes to incorporate into my meal-prepping! I chose UMN Medical School because I loved that the school emphasized both scholarly inquiry and community engagement throughout the medical education. I knew that coming here would allow me to both pursue my research interests as well as do meaningful work in the community without having to pick just one path. I also chose UMN because I truly felt that the school values the diverse backgrounds of its students and that it was a place where all voices could be valued and heard.
