Why I chose the University of Minnesota Medical School

I love Minnesota. It offers the best of both worlds—from the big city to the great outdoors. I grew up here, but I moved away for college, so I was excited to come back home for medical school. At least no one would make fun of the way I say bag! Aside from the geography, I chose UMN because of the supportive and collaborative environment. I feel like everyone is interested in seeing me succeed. As a first-generation college and medical student, I knew that I wanted to go to a school that would offer a strong advising network to help me reach my career goals. From faculty advisors to academic advisors to peer mentors, UMN’s network can’t be beat. Additionally, as the only medical school in the Twin Cities, we have access to so many resources for clinical experience, research, and more. So far, UMN has exceeded my hopes in preparing me for my career as a physician, and I’m so happy to be here.
