Department Names 2025-26 Chief Resident
The Department of Anesthesiology is excited to announce John Cahir, MD, as our next Chief Anesthesiology Resident for the 2025-2026 academic year! Dr. Cahir was voted on by the faculty and residents of the department.
"As many of you know, prior to attending medical school I served in the United States Army for seven years. During that time, I developed a passion for leadership. As an officer in the Army, I had the privilege to lead numerous teams and organizations, and learn what it takes to truly lead others. These experiences helped me develop my own leadership style and priorities. In the end, there is a difference between being a leader and being in charge. You can be placed in charge and people will listen to you by virtue of your position and nothing else. A leader is someone who inspires people to do things out of respect. A leader should never ask someone to do something you are not willing to do yourself. You are responsible for everything those around you do, or more importantly fail to do. When things go right it is because you have an awesome team. When things go wrong it is because you failed," stated Dr. John Cahir.
"Since starting residency, I have missed the challenge of being in leadership roles. I am excited and energized by the prospect of becoming a chief next year. I look forward to being an advocate for the residents in this program and working with the program to ensure that this residency is the best it can be. I know it won’t be easy, but I am excited about meeting challenges head on and working as a team to resolve them. If selected to be a chief, I will focus on transparency and communication within the program, ensuring that our residents both feel that they have a voice and understand decisions as they are made."
Please join the department in congratulating Dr. Cahir on this outstanding honor!
