The Department of Anesthesiology is excited to announce Francine Moriguchi, MD, and Thomas Roser, MD, as our next Chief Anesthesiology Residents for the 2026–2027 academic year. Drs. Moriguchi and Roser were voted on by the faculty and residents of the department.

Dr. Moriguchi brings a strong commitment to resident advocacy, mentorship, and collaboration. In her application, she emphasized the importance of professionalism, organization, and communication, noting, “Throughout residency, I have demonstrated professionalism, reliability, and the ability to work collaboratively with residents, faculty, and multidisciplinary teams.” She also highlighted her passion for teaching and mentorship, sharing, “I enjoy mentoring junior anesthesia residents and contributing to teaching activities to both my colleagues and medical students.”

Looking ahead to her role as chief resident, Dr. Moriguchi expressed a clear vision centered on wellbeing, transparency, and inclusion. She stated, “As chief resident, my primary goal will be to support resident wellbeing, enhance communication between residents and program leadership, and contribute to a positive, inclusive learning environment.” She further noted her dedication to advocacy and education, stating, “Through these efforts, I aim to enhance both the education experience and sense of community within our program while maintaining high standards of patient care.”

Dr. Roser reflected on a strong sense of service, leadership, and commitment to program growth. He described the chief resident role as “a challenging and rewarding opportunity for growth and progression in this capacity as a leader,” emphasizing the importance of teamwork and trust. He shared, “I believe I have demonstrated and developed a team centered and collegial mindset amongst the perioperative services combined with a demonstrated work ethic required of the role.”

Dr. Roser also underscored the value of transparency and listening as central to effective leadership, stating, “I commit to lead by listening, understanding, and accommodating when able. Transparency in the decision-making processes will earn trust as I advocate for co-resident concerns.” In addition, he outlined thoughtful goals for program development, including “developing a formal CA-1 resident rotation through subspecialties in the spring and in establishing a transition to practice rotation for CA-3 residents ensuring autonomy and independent practice opportunities prior to graduation.”

The department looks forward to Drs. Moriguchi and Roser serving together as chief residents and is confident their leadership will further strengthen resident education, community, and excellence in patient care. Join us in congratulating them on this well-earned honor!
