Dr. Crutchfield is a physician, teacher, author, inventor, entrepreneur, and philanthropist. Dr. Crutchfield mentors under-represented students from the University of Minnesota, and established a Dermatology lectureship at the University of Minnesota. As a professor, he teaches students at both Carleton College and the University of Minnesota Medical School. .
