A native of Nigeria, Okafo received his Certificate of Completion of Basic Surgical Training from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) in 2007 and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (FRCSI) in 2016. Also a Fellow of the European Board of Neurological Surgery (FEBNS), Okafo has both trained and practiced Neurosurgery at the Cork University Hospital and Beaumont Hospital in Ireland from January 2006 to July of 2016.

In 2008, Okafo was awarded the Irish Institute of Clinical Neuroscience/UCB (Union chimique belge) Pharma Neuroscience Bursary Award. The award is designed to encourage and recognize ongoing research in clinical neurosciences. He has published on topics ranging from the mysterious condition called ammon’s horn sclerosis to chronic subdural hematoma to meningioma. In addition, he’s given several scholarly presentations.

While at the U of M, Okafo is working on endonasal endoscopic approaches to intracranial aneurysms under the mentorship of Andrew Grande, MD.

Okafo and his family live in Maple Grove, MN. In his spare time, He likes to read, evangelize and listen to music.
