Dr. Collins investigates the role of the mesolimbic dopamine system in mediating motivated behaviors.

Summary

Val received their BS at the University of Washington, wherein they investigated the contribution of striatal dopamine release in Pavlovian learning using FSCV in Dr. Paul Phillips lab. As a graduate student, he joined Dr. Kate Wassum's lab at UCLA and investigated striatal cholinergic-dopaminergic interactions and their contribution to cue-motivated behavior. For his Post-doc in the Saunders lab, Val has transitioned to focus on translational model of drug-addiction and the underlying neural circuits that contribution to cue-driven drug-seeking.
