The UMN diabetes team includes several physicians (Antoinette Moran, Muna Sunni, Brandon Nathan, Melena Bellin, and Jennifer McVean), four diabetes nurse educators (Melissa Clark, Marrissa Ludwig, Heather Lage, and Terra Clausen), four diabetes dietitians (Carol Brunzell, Rachel Fog, Jenn Fischer, and Katie Vellabati), and a psychologist (Chris Boys). Adding diabetes care onto an already busy routine of chronic illness management is difficult. We work with individuals with diabetes and their families to help them through this process in order to achieve good health. While we are available 24/7 to provide diabetes support, our goal is to work with individuals and families to give them the tools they need to be able to self-manage diabetes and to work diabetes care and technology into their normal routine and lifestyle. We care for children with all types of diabetes. We have been national leaders in diabetes research since the late 1980s.

Professor Antoinette Moran, MD, is Division Chief of Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes at the University of Minnesota. She has been working with patients with diabetes since 1987, performing research and clinical care. Her research in cystic fibrosis-related diabetes resulted in her being named the first annual recipient of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s Richard C. Talamo Distinguished Clinical Achievement Award, for “research contributions that have had significant influence on the course of the disease.” She is a leader in the field of clinical trials to prevent and cure of type 1 diabetes. Her research is funded by the National Institutes of Health, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, and industry. She is involved in global health and has been working with a pediatric diabetes clinic in Uganda for more than 10 years.
