Summary

Dr. Francis is Professor Emeritus of Medicine at the University of Minnesota. He is a cardiologist who specializes in congestive heart failure. Dr. Francis is retired but maintains an office at the University of Minnesota. He has published more than 560 scientific papers and has edited or co-edited 23 books. His work has been cited more than 50,000 times in the scientific literature, placing him in the top one percent of all scientists internationally. He has been Visiting Professor at 108 University or large teaching hospitals worldwide and has given 18 named or endowed lectures over the years. He has given more than 335 lectures at various national and international venues around the world.

Dr. Francis has received numerous national awards for his work. These awards have included a Lifetime Achievement Award and four national teaching awards, including the Distinguished Teaching Award from the American College of Cardiology and the annual Laennec Clinician Educator Award from the American Heart Association.

Dr. Francis has served on numerous boards and councils and has participated on 41 data and safety monitoring boards which oversee large NIH and industrial clinical trials in the field of congestive heart failure.

Dr. Francis has been Chief of Clinical Cardiology at the Cleveland Clinic and served as the Fred and Katherine B. Andersen Chair as Chief of Cardiology at the University of Minnesota. He was also Executive Medical Director of the Cardiovascular Service Line at M Health for several years.
