Arthur G. Johnson Graduate Fellowship Award
Congratulations to Rouwaida Nitiema (Gateways Program/Scroggins Laboratory) and Sarah King (Gateways Program/Lefevre Laboratory), recipients of the 2026 Arthur G. Johnson Award. Both students will use the funding to support their respective summer research projects.
The award honors Arthur G. Johnson, PhD, Professor Emeritus and former head of the Department of Medical Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Minnesota Medical School, Duluth campus. Dr. Johnson was a distinguished researcher, educator, and mentor. During his career at the University of Michigan and the University of Minnesota Medical School Duluth, he trained 23 doctoral students, 21 master’s students, and 28 postdoctoral scholars, and he served on 70 doctoral thesis committees.
Dr. Johnson’s legacy continues through the students and research he helped shape. This award reflects an ongoing commitment to supporting emerging scientists and advancing research in his honor.
