Peter Winslow, a graduate student and recipient of the NASA FINESST grant, is exploring the origins of life and the possibility of extraterrestrial life. His research involves creating synthetic proteins that do not exist in nature, to study how life could emerge in alternate environments, such as other planets. These engineered proteins, which mimic biological functions like ATP binding, offer insight into how life might function in unknown forms. Winslow is passionate about preparing for potential future discoveries of life beyond Earth, while also mentoring undergraduates and engaging in science communication. He is driven by the excitement of unexpected results and the potential of discovering alien life. Read full story on cbs.umn.edu
