Office of the Dean

Each of the 13 researchers received a certificate and a $10,000 bonus for their achievements.

I have to admit—although I would not for all the world start over again—that I envy you today.

This week is the 50th Anniversary of the world’s first successful bone marrow transplant (BMT) from a matched related donor, which was performed here at the University of Minnesota by Dr. Robert Good and his team.

As interim head, he has increased research support for faculty, increased the department’s collaboration efforts, and maintained the strength of our residency program.

There are so many changes going on right now, so many initiatives started or revived, that it is nice to look at the solid achievements of the past year.

To all the Chainbreaker riders, volunteers, organizers, and donors: Thank you!

I am pleased to announce John Bischof, PhD, has been named the director of the University of Minnesota Institute for Engineering in Medicine (IEM).

Today, the University of Minnesota Board of Regents unanimously approved the appointment of Dr. Jakub Tolar as the Vice President for Clinical Affairs.

We remain a space of discovery, where curiosity is the driving force behind understanding—a higher kind of knowledge than we have had before.

We have received our legacy from those who went before, and we are preparing our legacy for those who come after. It gives us perspective, foundation and purpose.
