Diverse Faculty Research Award (DRAW)

The DOM is committed to supporting the career development of faculty from backgrounds that are under-represented in our department. The purpose of the DOM Diverse Faculty Research Award (DRAW) is to provide funding opportunities for under-represented minority faculty to support academic productivity, expand the research portfolio, and help recruit minority faculty to the DOM.
  • Provides funding for early and mid-career under-represented minority faculty
  • $25,000/year for two years in direct costs (total $50,000)

2020 Dates and Deadlines for OFAD Awards

  • Letter of Intent submission deadline: March 6, 2020
  • Notification of LOI acceptance/invitation to apply: March 20, 2020
  • Full application due: April 27, 2020
  • Notification of awards: June 1, 2020
  • Start date: July 1, 2020

Dr. Casey Dorr is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine and an investigator at the Hennepin Healthcare Research Institute (HHRI). He received the DRAW award for his project, Development and Functional Characterization, by Tacrolimus Metabolism Assays, of CYP3A5 *7 human liver cell lines.

2019 Awardee

Dr. Abbie Begnaud is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, Critical Care and Sleep. She received the DRAW award for her project, Use Of Telemedicine To Improve Diagnosis Of Lung Cancer And Follow Up Of Abnormal CT Results In A Rural Lung Cancer Screening Program.

Dr. Anteneh Zewde is an Assistant Professor in the Division of General Internal Medicine. He received the DRAW award for his project, Assessing Gaps in Care for HIV-Infected People Living with AIDS in Adama, Ethiopia.
