Our 2025 Family Medicine Graduates: Where Are They Now?
In June 2025, we celebrated our department’s 56th commencement and welcomed a fantastic group of talented medical providers and family physicians to our legacy of more than 2,000 trained over the years. This year’s graduating class included the following:
- Forty-seven family medicine residents and three pharmacy residents across seven residencies
- Six hospice and palliative medicine fellows
- Two sexual and gender health fellows
- Two sports medicine fellows
- One primary care behavioral health fellow, and
- One pre-doctoral medical family therapy intern
Where are they headed next? Around 67 percent of our graduates are staying in Minnesota to practice their specialty. Here is the breakdown:
- 16.3 percent will practice in rural Minnesota
- 51 percent will practice in urban areas within Minnesota
- 79.6 percent indicated their plans included outpatient family medicine work
- 69.4 percent will practice in the Midwest
Several graduates are advancing their training in specialized fields:
- An obstetrics fellowship is the next step for Dr. Julia Krumholz (UMMC/Smiley’s)
- A sports medicine fellowship is underway for Dr. Rebekah Fiers (North Memorial)
- Dr. Layne Anderson (North Memorial) joined a palliative medicine fellowship
- A sleep medicine fellowship is in store for Dr. Namrata Damle (Methodist)
- Dr. Kelly Thao (St. John’s) is currently working in the float pool but plans to pursue a sports medicine fellowship
