Remembering Dr. Leon J. Nesvacil
Leon J. Nesvacil, MD, age 93, of Hugo, Minnesota, and formerly of Waunakee, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully in Stillwater, Minnesota, on Thursday, September 21, 2023. Dr. Nesvacil served as faculty and the first program director of the St. John’s Hospital Family Medicine Residency Program from 1971-1991.
Dr. Nesvacil graduated in 1961 from the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. He served as a St. Paul family physician and a member of the Ramsey County Medical Society, MMA, and AMA. He also served on a number of MMA committees, including the Committee on Residents and Medical Students, and he was active in the Ramsey County Medical Society.
The St. John’s residency program was founded in 1971 as the St. John's Unit of the University of Minnesota Family Practice Residency, which teamed up Dr. Leon Nesvacil's practice with Dr. Reif, who served at the time as the director of education at St. John's Hospital.
