Rochester DPT Pathway

Purpose

To identify, recruit, and support motivated undergraduate learners, especially those who are a first-generation college student, economically disadvantaged, and/or from a rural community and who are interested in developing expertise in physical activity and human movement and pursuing a career in physical therapy.

Eligibility

Students enrolled at the University of Minnesota Rochester campus pursuing a major in Health Sciences are eligible to apply for the Rochester Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) Pathway Program.

Partnership Commitment

The University of Minnesota Rochester will promote and support undergraduate degree completion in three or four years. Students accepted into the “Rochester Accelerated DPT Pathway” will receive early assurance commitment from the University of Minnesota Twin Cities Division of Physical Therapy to matriculate to its graduate professional Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program following undergraduate degree completion and meeting annual benchmark requirements.

Progression Standards

Students are encouraged to work closely with their student success coach to develop a course plan aligned with the Rochester DPT Pathway timeline. Students are required to maintain minimum cumulative and prerequisite GPAs of 3.0 each term and complete all Rochester DPT Pathway requirements to progress. Completion of all academic and non-academic requirements is monitored through a comprehensive Rochester DPT Pathway Portfolio. Progressive completion of the Portfolio ensures student readiness to meet DPT program matriculation requirements.

Application

First-year UMR students can apply from March 15 to April 30, with interviews held between May 1 and May 31, either in person or via Zoom. Decisions will be announced by June 1, and accepted applicants must confirm their offers by June 14. The Rochester DPT Pathway begins on July 1. Complete the online Rochester DPT Pathway Application Form as the first step.
