Alex Sandberg Receives the 2025 GME Program Coordinator Excellence Award

Alex Sandberg and Dr. Duffy

We are delighted to announce that Alex Sandberg is the recipient of the 2025 Program Administrator Excellence Award, in recognition of his outstanding leadership, innovation, and national impact in Graduate Medical Education.

As the administrator for the Pediatrics Residency Program, Alex has demonstrated an exceptional ability to manage complex scheduling logistics for 76 residents. He has developed innovative tools—including a detailed and highly functional scheduling spreadsheet—that have streamlined operations and enhanced the resident experience. His responsiveness and attention to individual needs, particularly during sensitive periods such as parental leave, have earned the admiration and gratitude of both residents and faculty.

Alex is widely recognized for his empathetic, flexible, and thoughtful approach. His quiet leadership style, rooted in collaboration and humility, has had a profound influence on the culture of medical education administration. His nominators consistently describe him as intelligent, humble, and deeply committed to the well-being of others.

On a national level, Alex is a rising leader through his involvement in the Association of Pediatric Program Directors (APPD) LEAPES program. He has presented at major conferences and was recently invited to teach future cohorts on the topic of quiet leadership—further cementing his role as a thought leader and educator in the GME community.

Alex’s lasting contributions have not only improved the operational efficiency of his program but also elevated the humanity and integrity of its educational environment. He is a truly deserving recipient of this year’s Program Administrator Excellence Award, and we are proud to celebrate his achievements.

Congratulations, Alex, and thank you for your extraordinary work!
