The Center for Immunology is proud to celebrate Dr. Courtney Matson, who has been named a finalist for the National Postdoctoral Association’s 2026 Postdoc of the Year Award—her second consecutive year receiving this national recognition. This award honors postdocs who make exceptional contributions to their communities beyond their research roles and who embody the NPA’s mission and core values.

Dr. Matson is a postdoctoral researcher in the Masopust Lab, where she studies the role of tissue‑resident T cells in autoimmunity. Alongside her scientific accomplishments, she has become a leading advocate for postdocs across the University of Minnesota, working to improve the postdoctoral experience and strengthen the broader research community.

In her nomination letter, Assistant Vice Provost for Graduate Student & Postdoctoral Initiatives Noro Andriamanalina wrote, “What is especially impressive about Courtney’s advocacy and engagement with stakeholders across UMN is her capacity to move conversations toward action and tenacity when working in service of her peers to positively impact the postdoctoral climate.”

This recognition reflects Dr. Matson’s scientific excellence, her leadership, and her deep commitment to supporting her peers. The NPA typically announces winners of its top awards during its annual conference in March, and we look forward to celebrating alongside Courtney as the event approaches.
