Catalog Description:  

This course offers an in-depth exploration of the crucial role that interprofessional collaboration plays in cancer care, with a focus on understanding how integrated approaches can significantly improve patient outcomes. Interprofessional health sciences students will develop a comprehensive understanding of the areas where interprofessional partnerships are essential and examine how these partnerships enhance the quality of care.
Key topics include the historical evolution of cancer care, the diverse roles of healthcare professionals across the cancer care continuum, and the impact of interprofessional partnerships on addressing health disparities and promoting health equity. Students will also explore bioethical considerations, legal aspects of cancer care, and the implications of the Anthropocene on cancer incidence and outcomes. Furthermore, the course will examine clinical research and the principles of transdisciplinarity in cancer care, highlighting the value of cross-sector collaboration in tackling complex systems issues.

Note: This course meets weekly throughout the Fall semester. Course registration is for the F17 period; overlapping registration with another course is not allowed.
