Catalog Description: This 2-week elective is offered to any third and fourth-year medical student interested in exploring the intersection of medicine and the arts. Students will work with the course directors to tailor a course of study that will immerse them in forms of art and creative expression (such as literature, film, visual art, music, etc.) that reflect - and are inspired by - the practice of medicine. They will meet in small groups periodically, and at least once as a whole group, during the two weeks to discuss their reactions to these artistic and creative works. There will be a classroom asynchronous online discussion forum to which participants are expected to contribute comments. Participants will write a reflective piece by the conclusion of the 2-week elective and are encouraged to consider submitting it for publication. (Students interested in doing so can with one of the course directors beyond the end of this elective.)
