MEET THE CLASS OF 2024
Our new class of students come from a variety of backgrounds, each with a unique path that led them to our Medical School. We connected with three members of the class of 2024, including Courtney Cotsonas, Milki Gemeda, Brett Norling who each shared their story and goals.
Dean Tolar's Words of Wisdom
"The whole history of medicine as I see it is built on the alleviation of human suffering, and there is very little that I can think of that is more noble, more meaningful, and more creative than that. What you need to know is that we are here for you. We are your fan club. We are your support team. We are the people who will step up and build around you the circle of safety and support that everybody needs. But, remember that you did not get to this position on your own. You have been given, as well as I did, some help along the way. Keeping that history of kindness and grace in front of you may serve you as a guide to perform the same for others during your journey here." - Jakub Tolar, MD, PhD, Dean of the Medical School
2024 MD Student Oaths
Every year the new MD class collaboratively develops an oath which is recited during the white coat ceremony. The sacred pledge dates back hundreds of years and affirms each student to abide by a strong set of ethical standards, commitment to their patients and the utmost quality of care.
TWIN CITIES STUDENT OATH
As we reflect upon our initiation into medicine during a pivotal chapter of racial and social justice amidst a pandemic, we, the University of Minnesota Twin Cities Medical School Class of 2024, pledge this oath to ourselves, patients, colleagues, and community:
DULUTH STUDENT OATH
As the Class of 2024 of the University of Minnesota Medical School, Duluth Campus we proudly stand today before our family, friends, mentors, and colleagues to honor the legacy of the medical profession.
