The Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology announces the appointment of Amy Beckman to our faculty as an assistant professor effective July 29. Beckman has been in the department since 2015, completing a residency in anatomic and clinical pathology and a fellowship in hematopathology. She joins the LMP Hematopathology Division under the leadership of LMP associate professor Michael Linden.

Beckman earned a B.S. degree in biology from the University of Michigan in 1994 and an MD degree from the University of California, San Francisco in 2002. After working as a study coordinator for Children’s Hospital and Research Center in Oakland and then at an Oakland-based biotechnology company, Beckman relocated to the Twin Cities in 2009, working two years as a case manager for the National Marrow Donor Program in Minneapolis.

Beckman was a member of the Resident Leadership Academy, U of M Office of Graduate Education and was a founding member of the Resident Molecular Pathology Journal Club. She served as LMP Chief Resident 2017-2018 and as a junior member, Personalized Healthcare Committee, College of American Pathologists (CAP), 2018-2019. Beckman is a member of CAP and the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP).

In 2017 and again in 2019 Beckman received the Kenneth F. Ernst Award in recognition of superior research in pathology by trainees. In 2019 she gave an LMP Grand Rounds talk on "The cytogenomic landscape of myeloid neoplasms in Down syndrome".
