The Department of Biomedical Sciences welcomes Rodney Bøyum, MD, PhD, ‘01, as our incoming associate professor! 

Dr. Boyum is a board-certified anatomic and clinical pathologist with broad interest and experience obtained in his over 20+ years in the U.S. Navy. Dr. Bøyum’s career began in basic science when he earned a PhD in biochemistry before entering Medical School.

He has 30 years of teaching experience from serving as a teaching assistant during his graduate studies and academic appointments at two medical schools during his Navy career before joining us at the Medical School, Duluth Campus.

In 2011 through early 2012, Dr. Bøyum was deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom where he was responsible for developing the first strategic, coordinated campaign plan to guide NATO and Afghan National Security Forces Healthcare Development efforts.

He is eager to apply his experience both here at the Medical School, Duluth Campus, and to his clinical practice at Essentia St. Mary’s Medical Center through M Physicians.
