Legacy and Innovation.

Legacy – can be defined as something transmitted or received from an ancestor or predecessor from the past.   

Exiting the elevator on the 11th floor of PWB, we are met with the large photo of Owen H. Wangensteen, MD, PhD, Chair of Surgery, 1930-1967.  Wangensteen left an indelible legacy - a commitment to train surgeons to be surgeon scientists.  This legacy provides a foundation to create solutions and solve current medical problems to advance modern medicine. It is this legacy that we build upon to spur innovation or what Wangensteen termed disruptive innovation.
