Department of Dermatology’s 16th Annual Research Day

The Department of Dermatology’s 16th Annual Research Day was held virtually on Wednesday, April 14, 2021, with 50 faculty, staff, residents, students and researchers attending. Our guest speakers were Esther Freeman, MD, PhD from the Dermatology Department at Harvard and Laura Niedernhofer, MD, PhD from the University of Minnesota Department of Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, and Biophysics.
 
There were 27 abstracts submitted for judging by an expert panel of judges. Awards were given for the Most Outstanding Research Contribution and three additional excellent abstracts.
 
Congratulations to the following speakers:
Jenna Ruggiero, MS3, received the Most Outstanding Research Contribution award for her abstract “Cutaneous Findings, Skin Cancer and Sun Protection Practices in Fanconi Anemia."

Cynthia Nicholson, MD, Peds Derm Fellow - Infantile Hemangiomas of the Upper Lip and Philtrum with Associated Cleft Lip and/or Palate
James Gao MD, Dermatology Resident - Sex, Racial/Ethnic and Sexual Orientation Diversity and Career Goals Among Graduating Medical Students Pursuing Dermatology
