Division of Pediatric Cardiac Surgery Welcomes New Chief, Professor

Pediatric Cardiac Surgeon Pranava Sinha, MD will join the Department of Surgery in the spring of 2022. 

We are pleased to announce that Pranava Sinha, MD, has been appointed as the new Division Chief and Professor of Pediatric Cardiac Surgery in the Department of Surgery at the University of Minnesota Medical School and the M Health Fairview Masonic Children’s Hospital. Dr. Sinha is an expert in repairs of congenital heart defects, pediatric mechanical circulatory support and pediatric heart transplants.
 
We want to thank our search committee chair, Greg Beilman, MD, and those who participated in the interview process. We would also like to extend our gratitude to Dr. Beilman for his service as Deputy Chair of Pediatric Cardiac Surgery. 
 
Dr. Sinha joins us from the George Washington University School of Medicine where he served as Associate Professor in Surgery and Pediatrics, as well as the Surgical Director of Heart Transplantation and Mechanical Circulatory Support at Children’s National Hospital and Adult Congenital Heart Disease
 
Dr. Sinha has a long record of interest in infant cardiac surgery and pediatric heart transplantation research, which makes him an outstanding candidate to lead our division of Pediatric Cardiac Surgery. His clinical focus lies in early primary repair of neonatal and infant heart defects and heart transplantation. His research is focused on pediatric mechanical circulatory assist devices and the management of single ventricle circulation. 
 
Dr. Sinha has devoted his career and service to the international community by leading several medical missions to establish sustainable pediatric cardiac care programs through education, donation of technology, patient care and meeting with hospital and government officials. He also serves on the Board of Directors of the Saloni Heart Foundation, a non-profit initiative to support referrals for a second opinion for patients in India and other parts of the globe. He is a proud sponsor of medical education for economically challenged students in India. 
 
Dr. Sinha will serve a critical role in building and co-leading an interdisciplinary team to provide exemplary patient care and family experience. He will be co-director of the Heart Center at the M Health Fairview Masonic Children’s Hospital and the inaugural holder of the John Bass Chair in Pediatric Cardiovascular Health.
