Dr. Bruce Bart's Retirement Celebration

Many thanks to Dr. Bruce Bart for his many years as head of dermatology at one of our key teaching sites, Hennepin County Medical Center (HCMC)!

Dr. Bart has a long history and commitment to HCMC and to teaching University of Minnesota dermatology residents, residents from other disciplines, and medical students. Dr. Bart is also known for his clinical expertise and interest in the genodermatoses. Historically speaking, Dr. Bart spent one year at the General hospital as a second-year resident from 1963 to 1964 and after his  three-year residency was completed, he left the state to practice elsewhere for two years. He returned in 1967 to join the faculty and became the first salaried dermatologist at the county hospital and worked there half time as a clinical instructor; his other time was dedicated to a private practice in downtown Minneapolis. In 1970, when the chief of dermatology stepped down, Dr. Laymon, Dr. Bart  was appointed as the third chief of dermatology. In 1986, he left private practice to become a full-time chief of dermatology, a position he maintained to March, 2019! During this time, his two sons have joined him on the faculty at HCMC in cardiology and addiction medicine. Congratulations Dr. Bart!
