Dr. Howell in "Where Discovery Creates Hope: The Science of Sleep"

The May edition of the University of Minnesota Medical School series “Where Discovery Creates Hope” spotlights Department of Neurology faculty Dr. Michael Howell.
Dr. Howell is an Associate Professor in the Sleep Medicine division of the Department of Neurology. He is the Program Director of the Clinical Sleep Medicine Fellowship at the Hennepin County Medical Center and the University of Minnesota. Additionally, Dr. Howell is a Medical Director of the Fairview Sleep Center in Edina. His clinical specialities and interests include REM Sleep Behavior Disorder (RBD), Sleep Related Eating Disorder, sleep seizures, and other violent sleep behaviors.
Terrified after accidentally hitting his wife in his sleep, Allan Moon has no recollection of that night. His wife, Barbara, was shaken and not badly hurt after, but knew that her husband needed help. The Moons found Dr. Howell and were able to receive help from him in his specialty of RBD. A few changes suggested by Dr. Howell made all the difference for Allan.
Dr. Howell expresses how valuable good sleep is, “People are really quite happy when they’re able to get a good night’s sleep”. With a few quick tips on how to improve sleep, Dr. Howell brings hope to people that suffer from sleep disorders.
