Dr. Paula Termuhlen Named 2019-20 AAMC Council of Deans Fellow

Paula M. Termuhlen, MD, Regional Duluth Campus Dean and Professor of Surgery, is among five senior faculty members selected to join the Council of Deans (COD) of the Association of American Medical Colleges Fellowship Program for the 2019-2020 academic year. The mission of the program is to continue enhancing the improvements of the nation’s medical schools and is designed to strengthen the development of future leaders in academic medicine.
As a group, the Council will develop strategies towards fulfilling individual medical school missions. On behalf of the UMN Medical School, Dr. Termuhlen will be visiting medical schools across the nation to mentor and collaborate on improvements to excellence in medical education, research and patient care through the association’s service and advocacy functions.
Dr. Termuhlen is a distinguished surgical educator with profound experience in medical education, surgical oncology, and surgical training. Dr. Termuhlen holds numerous leadership positions and recognitions, including her most recent induction into the Academy of Master Surgeon Educators, American College of Surgeons. She is also the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Regional Medical Campuses.
The Duluth campus has the highest Native American faculty/staff-to-student ratio of any campus in the U.S., is second in the nation in the number of Native American physician graduates, and third in primary care training and rural medicine.
