Dr. Wirta Kosobuski Publishes Paper on "The Impact of COVID-19 on American Indian and Alaska Native Communities"
Anna Wirta Kosobuski, EdD, assistant professor in the Department of Biomedical Sciences recently published a paper with her colleagues in the American Journal of Public Health entitled, "The Impact of COVID-19 on American Indian and Alaska Native Communities: A Call for Better Relational Models.” This paper reports the disproportionate and multifaceted impact of COVID-19 on Native Americans. It discusses how Minnesota heeded the voice of Tribal leaders early on to promote public health measures in their communities.
The COVID-19 pandemic has presented new opportunities to consider how Minnesota’s inclusion model can be implemented at all levels of decision-making, including federal policy forums. In this way, improved responses are anticipated to elevate the overall status of Native American health, not only in times of crisis.
