Leaders from the private, public, and nonprofit sectors increasingly emphasize the value and necessity of shared leadership to address complex societal challenges, such as environmental stewardship. University of Minnesota students, postdocs, staff, and faculty who are committed to these issues constantly engage with all kinds of boundaries - disciplinary, sectoral, organizational, cultural - in an effort to mobilize knowledge into action and impact. This workshop introduces a few key underlying concepts and frameworks for effective, shared leadership for collective impact. To understand key challenges and effective approaches to cross-sector leadership, we will analyze a case study of creating a green master plan for a Midwestern U.S. city. This workshop will conclude with a short diagnostic tool to identify key challenges and opportunities in your own cross-sectoral leadership.
