Kevin Wickman, PhD, Appointed Department Head for Pharmacology

Today, I am very pleased to announce that Kevin Wickman, PhD, has accepted the role as Head of the Department of Pharmacology for our Medical School beginning June 8.

Dr. Wickman joined the Department of Pharmacology as a faculty member in 1999. He was named Vice Head of Pharmacology in 2017 and currently holds the titles of Distinguished University Teaching Professor and Distinguished McKnight University Professor. An accomplished scientist, his research focuses on identifying molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying addiction, anxiety, cardiac arrhythmias and other debilitating conditions. Dr. Wickman earned his BA in Chemistry from St. Olaf College in 1991 and his PhD in Molecular Neuroscience from the Mayo Clinic in 1995. He completed postdoctoral training with Dr. Sandra Gendler at the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale and Dr. David Clapham at Children’s Hospital/Harvard Medical School.

We are excited for Dr. Wickman to join the Medical School leadership team and add his energy and passion to our group. My deep gratitude goes to Jill Siegfried, PhD, for her years of service to the department and the University, and my best wishes for her retirement.

Please join me in welcoming Dr. Wickman to his new role and supporting him in a successful start.
