Match Day 2021: Welcome, New Residents

We now have two years of virtual Match Days under our belts—and much to celebrate. On March 19, 2021, we welcomed 54 residents into our eight residency programs! Once again we were lucky enough to be able to connect with students via Zoom and YouTube and watch as they revealed where they matched. They joined us from cars, from the Appalachian Trail, sometimes with proud parents and partners, sometimes alone, and sometimes while holding adorable babies and children. A few facts about the match this year:

  • All of our residency programs were filled on Monday, March 15
  • A total of 17.8 percent of University of Minnesota senior medical students matched into family medicine, just behind internal medicine
  • More than 47 percent are staying in Minnesota for their residency training
