In Memory of Dr. Marvin Goldberg

Marvin Goldberg, MD, retired assistant professor in the University of Minnesota Medical School’s Department of Radiology, passed away peacefully on Tuesday evening, Oct. 7, 2019.

“I had the good fortune of meeting Dr. Goldberg early on in my career in radiology. I felt he took me under his wing, and I immediately acquired the utmost respect for him and looked to him for guidance. He had such wisdom with an extremely positive demeanor that he exhibited daily.  We all learned and benefited by his example,” said Linda Meyer, executive assistant in the Department of Radiology.

As a long standing alumni member of the University of Minnesota Medical School, Dr. Goldberg received his medical degree, completed a Pathology Residency, a Radiology Residency and worked for many years here at the University. Dr. Goldberg also completed a Fellowship from the American Cancer Society.

Our talented colleague was very active in the medical community and a member of many societies and associations, such as: the Hennepin County Medical Society, Minnesota State Medical Association, American Medical Association, Minnesota Radiological Society, American College of Radiology and the Society of Nuclear Medicine, to name a few.

“He was a good friend and mentor to many in our Radiology community,” said Department Head Charles Dietz, MD. “He was my program director and mentor for the early part of my career. He helped shape my career and encouraged me to to become initially the program director, and eventually the chair of the department,” said Deitz. “His calm demeanor and thoughtfulness was always on display. Although he is gone, I will always feel his presence, especially in the department that he loved. He spent a large portion of his career helping the department. Even in death, he is helping us. We have lost a great friend.”
