The Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology announces the appointment of Penn Muluhngwi to our faculty as an assistant professor effective October 15.

Muluhngwi comes to us from the Feinberg School of Medicine, Northwestern University where he was HLA Director-in-training in the Transplant Immunology Laboratory. He earned a PhD in biochemistry and molecular biology and completed a postdoctoral clinical chemistry fellowship at the University of Louisville School of Medicine.

His recent research activities include the study of a circulating biomarker for CNS tumors and a retrospective study of oncogenic driver mutations in non-small-cell lung cancer patients. He hopes his interest in HLA and transplantation, which stems from his experience as a laboratory technician, will lead to improving patient care through high-quality laboratory testing and interpretation.
