Women's History Month

March 7, 1982, was designated by the President as the first “Women’s History Week,” and over the next five years, Congress continued to pass joint resolutions designating a week in March as “Women’s History Week.” Women’s History Month began in 1987 after the National Women’s History Project petitioned Congress to designate the month of March as “Women’s History Month.” This annual proclamation celebrates the contributions women have made to the United States and recognizes the specific achievements women have made over the course of American history in a variety of fields. Learn more about Women's History Month.
