Adult Reconstructive Surgery Fellowship

NOT EVEN A PANDEMIC can stop the Department of Orthopedic Surgery’s innovation program. Since working from home wherever possible was mandated by University of Minnesota President Joan Gabel, JD, on March 16, 2020, the department has not been together in person. However, quality improvement projects have continued moving forward. This is thanks to a deeply-rooted culture of innovation alongside the well-established technology platform ImproveWell.

Discussion of physician wellness and strategies to prevent burnout is now more important than ever given the additional stressors of COVID-19. It is probably not surprising to members of the #womensdermsociety that studies have shown women physicians are more likely to experience burnout than male physicians. Creating a culture of wellness in medicine has to start with making changes for our trainees. To this end, our academic dermatology department has created a Wellness Committee.

This position is part of a multi-year endeavor to expand the neuroscience research presence on the Duluth campus.

Dr. Alexandra Zachwieja, Assistant Professor in the Department of Biomedical Sciences, co-authored an article titled, "Understanding Late Pleistocene human land preference using ecological niche models in an Australasian test case."
