Empowering Multicultural Students for Careers in Medicine Seminar

Established in 1999, this seminar is designed for underrepresented and/or minority pre-medical students. The eight-week series is presented each spring, January through April. In-person required attendance sessions are 90 minutes and cover topics such as admissions, MCAT, AMCAS personal statement and supplemental application, interviewing, financing your education, insight from current medical students and physicians, and creating an action plan and applying into medical school.

Empowering Seminar 2021 Class
Goals of the seminar include:
  • Promoting success for multicultural and/or underrepresented students applying to Medical School

  • Demystify the medical school application process and enhance participants’ confidence in their ability to be successful medical school applicants

  • Increase the diversity of the University of Minnesota Medical School student body

This Seminar is designed for underrepresented pre-medical students but is open to all pre-medical college to professional-level learners that reside within the Minneapolis/St. Paul and the surrounding metro area. Participants do not have to be current University of Minnesota students.
