Orthopedic Bootcamp 2025: A Resounding Success!
Throughout February 2025, the Department of Orthopedic Surgery proudly hosted Orthopedic Bootcamp, an immersive, hands-on learning experience designed to equip third-year medical students with essential orthopedic skills. This year, 11 students, including one URiM participant, embraced the opportunity to engage in a month-long journey of orthopedic skill-building, mentorship, and professional development.
With guidance from over 25 dedicated faculty members, students participated in a comprehensive curriculum covering key orthopedic concepts such as professionalism, orthopedic examination, imaging, common musculoskeletal conditions, and surgical planning. In addition to these foundational topics, students honed critical procedural skills—including suturing, splinting, arthroscopy simulation, fracture reduction and casting, placing a traction pin, and preparing a case presentation. Their experience was further enriched by trauma call shadowing with residents and clinical/OR assignments, offering a real-world glimpse into the field.
This program would not be possible without the faculty, residents, and staff who generously dedicated their time to mentoring the next generation of orthopedic surgeons. Their commitment ensures that students leave the course not only with strengthened technical skills but also with a deeper appreciation for the field.
Heads up: Ortho Bootcamp is scheduled for April 2026 — it's never too early to connect and reserve your space to volunteer!
