Department of Orthopaedic Surgery Research Committee
The Research Committee has funds available for Orthopaedic Surgery faculty and resident research projects. These funds are commonly used for pilot studies, statisticians, mailing costs, etc. Project and budget proposals are reviewed monthly by the committee.
American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS)
AAOS recently launched a clearinghouse of research funding opportunities by orthopaedic specialty societies (BOS member organizations). This tool allows users to set filters and contains links to external websites for additional information and application instructions.
Orthopaedic Research and Education Foundation (OREF)
OREF funds several grant and award programs for both faculty and residents. General grants range from $5,000 to $225,000. Research-specific grants are available to investigators working in specific areas of orthopaedic research.
Department of Defense DoD Peer Reviewed Orthopaedic Research Program
The DoD offers funding for military relevant, peer-reviewed orthopaedic research through their PRORP program.
National Institutes of Health
The NIH offers a number of different general funding opportunities, including research awards, training awards, and career development awards. Within the NIH, the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases (NIAMS) offers funding opportunities for research projects related to orthopaedics.
The Arthritis Foundation offers funding opportunities for research projects related to arthritis.
UMN Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI)

The OVPR provides funding for several research programs including MnDRIVE, infrastructure programs, and matching funds.

UMN AHC Seed Grant Program
Seed grants are available to support faculty who wish to initiate a new direction in their research or to help develop innovative projects that will allow them to expand to new areas.
