LMP Employee Recognition Event is this Thursday

Once a year we gather together to recognize our LMP faculty, staff and students and our UMMC laboratory staff.  The event is scheduled at The Graduate Minneapolis Hotel in the ball room from 3:30 pm to 6:30 pm.  *Note time change*

Pediatrics honors Ferrieri

Pat Ferrieri was awarded the Gold-Headed Cane at Pediatric Grand Rounds Oct 31 in the Wilf Auditorium. This award honors life-long service to children. See Ferrieri and earlier awardees in the attached photo.

Cohn will join the HHS advisory committee

Claudia Cohn will join the Advisory Committee on Blood and Tissue Safety and Availability (ACBTSA), a 31-member federal advisory committee that provides advice to the Secretary of Health and Human Services through the Assistant Secretary for Health on a range of policy issues related to blood, blood products, and tissues.

Amin featured in American Society of Cytopathology spotlight

Khalid Amin is interviewed for a member spotlight of the month feature of the American Society of Cytopathology.  You can access the interview at this link.

Murugan speaks to prostate cancer support group

Paari Murugan spoke to the U of M Prostate Cancer Support group Nov. 8 about the recent advancements in diagnosis, screening and prognostic tests for prostate cancer. He also discussed the histopathological aspects of this disease and the role histopathology plays in guiding clinical decision making.

Faculty and staff forum is scheduled for December 5

Jakub Tolar, Dean of the Medical School and UMPhysicians Board Chair, will provide an update on the MHealth Fairview partnership and key priorities for the practice and welcome new UMPhysicians CEO Badrinath Konety, MD, MBA.  The forum will be held from 7-8 am in Moos Tower 5-125.

A friendly reminder from ALRT accounting

If you take out faculty recruits or visiting speakers/lecturers for dinner keep in mind the following requirements for reimbursement required by the University: the number of University faculty/staff accompanying a visitor for a meal should be no more than four; reimbursement for meals are limited to $100/attendee including food, beverage, tax and tip (tips should not exceed 20%); itemized receipts are required for reimbursement; and reimbursement requests must be submitted within 60 days.

Residents can apply for funding

Residents can apply for research funding of up to $2,500; due date for proposals is January 1.  Proposals will be reviewed by a faculty committee.  More information on the application process is located here.

Upcoming events of interest or things to do

The next LMP Research Forum is scheduled for Thursday, December 13 from 5-7 in the Dale Shephard room at the Campus Club.  Kaylee Schwertfeger will present.

The Pathway to Publication workshop is scheduled for Dec. 6, 12:30 - 4pm in the McNamara Alumni Center.  All assistant professors or any other faculty are encouraged to attend this half-day, interactive workshop on how to write for peer-reviewed journals. Here is the link to register.


The next MPG quarterly meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, December 5 from 12-1:30 in Campus Club rooms A, B, C.
