Peer-to-Peer Session on Autonomy & Supervision: A False Dichotomy
Autonomy & Supervision: A False Dichotomy
Tuesday, February 28 (12-1 pm); Thursday, March 23 (1-2 pm)
Rachel Poeppelman, MD
Supervision requirements for learners in the clinical environment have increased over the years, and more supervision means less autonomy, right? In this talk, we will critically examine: 1) what autonomy means, 2) why getting autonomy "just right" is important for patients, trainees & society and 3) how we can apply theory and best practices from the literature to provide BOTH supervision and autonomy.
