Admissions Criteria

The Department of Pharmacology no longer accepts the GRE test. Please do not report your GRE score on your application.

Candidates for admission are evaluated on the basis of undergraduate record, previous research experience, and letters of recommendation.

The following is a list of general pre-requisites needed for admission:

Four Year B.A. or B.S. degree(or its equivalent) in a basic science program

Four-year B.A. or B.S. degree (or its equivalent) in a basic science program

  • Undergraduate GPA 

Minimum scores

TOEFL: Internet-based TOEFL: 100; paper-based TOEFL: 600; computer-based TOEFL: 250

GPA: Average GPA of accepted students in recent years is 3.5 (on a 4.0 scale).

GRE: the GRE is not required, and we request that applicants not submit their scores if they have taken the test.

Research experience

Previous research experience is not required to obtain admission to the program. However, many students have had moderate to extensive research experience.

Evaluation

We do not use test scores as cutoffs, nor do high grades and scores guarantee admission. Candidates for admission are evaluated on the basis of undergraduate record, TOEFL where applicable, previous research experience, letters of recommendation, a statement of goals and interests, and perceived program “fit.”
