Faculty Spotlight: Christina Brunnquell, PhD, DABR

Dr. Christina Brunnquell joined the Medical Physics division as an Assistant Professor in July 2023. “We are thrilled to have Christina here,” says Dr. Ngoneh Jallow. She brings a ton of experience to the department and has already made an impact in our clinical physics work. We are excited to see her growth and leadership in the department.” Dr. Brunnquell completed her PhD and Diagnostic Medical Physics residency at the University of Wisconsin, Madison.

Having come to us from the University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle, the vibrancy of working in a university setting is one of the things Dr. Brunnquell enjoys most. She is passionate about the tangible positive impacts of her work. “I love getting involved with research and clinical improvement projects with radiologists and techs to make imaging more effective, efficient, and quantitative.”

In her previous role, Dr. Brunnquell introduced high school students to radiology and imaging physics through a weekend immersion program. She hopes to become involved in a similar type of outreach here in the Twin Cities, spreading the word about this small but rewarding field to high schoolers and undergraduates.

Dr. Brunnquell is originally from Rochester, MN, and is glad to be closer to family. She has always been a Gophers fan and is excited to finally officially be one! She and her husband, Will, met at a wilderness tripping camp in Ely and love all hobbies that get them outdoors, with cross-country skiing being a family favorite!. They have children, ages 1 and 3.
