Dr. Joseph Fotos joined the Nuclear Medicine division as an Associate Professor in August. He moved with his family from Hershey, PA, after completing his medical school, residency, and fellowship training at Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center and working there as faculty for nearly 10 years. However, he is not entirely new to Minnesota, as he was born in Rochester before moving to New York at age 6.

Dr. Fotos is passionate about Nuclear Medicine. It was his first rotation in residency, and to him, nothing compared to its physiologic imaging after that. In particular, he is interested in Theranostics, cardiac imaging, and PET. Academically, his primary interest is education at all levels. He has been a director of Problem-Based Learning for medical students at Penn State College of Medicine and an Associate Program Director of the DR residency at Penn State. He is very excited to get involved in educational activities of all types.

Dr. Fotos has many hobbies and is a self-described "nerd." These mainly involve his love of technology, including building his own computers, mechanical keyboards, and 3D printing. His wife is a pediatric anesthesiologist, and they moved to UMN because of the fantastic opportunities, supportive atmosphere, and collegiality. They have two children, ages 9 and 12, and have already had a wonderful time exploring the cities, enjoying the outdoors, and eating the wonderful food.
